The Chioma Ajunwa Foundation, in collaboration with the Chinese Consul General and the Chinese Community in Nigeria, hosted a major campaign conference yesterday at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos, to mark the 2026 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The event, which commenced at 10:00 a.m. prompt, brought together law enforcement officers, students, and public advocates to address one of Nigeria's most persistent social challenges.

The campaign was chaired by Distinguished Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, with the Consul General of the People's Republic of China serving as Special Guest of Honour. The Deputy Consul General of the German Embassy in Lagos also attended as a Guest of Honour. Royal Father of the Day was His Majesty Eze Christian Okechukwu, Eze Ndigbo I of Lagos State, while Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Mrs. Omolara, Commandant of the Police College, Ikeja, served as Royal Mother of the Day.

Chinese Consul General Yan Yuqing, in her address, reaffirmed China's unwavering "zero-tolerance" stance on drugs. She noted that 2026 marks the 55th anniversary of China-Nigeria diplomatic relations and the "China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges," expressing hope for deepened bilateral cooperation in intelligence sharing, joint law enforcement, personnel training, and capacity building.

In a vibrant display of cultural exchange, the event featured energetic lion dance performances by a Chinese troupe, symbolising strength and good fortune, alongside a dynamic routine from a local girls’ dance crew. The performances, which drew loud applause from the crowd, were specially arranged to commemorate the Chinese Consulate’s active participation and to underscore the spirit of unity between both nations in the fight against drug abuse.
