DRUG FREE WORLD AFRICA COMMENDS GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY FOR MAJOR TRAMADOL SEIZURE AT TEMA PORT
*Drug Free World Africa Commends Ghana Revenue Authority for Major Tramadol Seizure at Tema Port*
Drug Free World Africa has commended the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for successfully intercepting a massive shipment of undeclared Tramadol at the Tema Port in a major intelligence-led operation.
According to reports, the seized container (No. TGHU6228715), which originated from the United Arab Emirates, contained 299 cartons with an estimated 146,932,000 tablets of Tramadol Hydrochloride (250mg and 225mg), weighing a total of 34,847.2 kilograms.
The container had reportedly been falsely declared as household items, including kettles, blenders, pressing irons and energy-saving bulbs, in an apparent attempt to evade detection. Drug Free World Africa noted that, if not for the vigilance of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the effective collaboration with other government agencies, the illicit consignment could have found its way onto the streets, with devastating consequences for citizens, particularly the youth.
The organisation described the interception as a major victory in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and abuse across the African continent.
Drug Free World Africa further emphasised that the battle against drug abuse in Africa can only be won through sustained collaboration among governments, law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations, community leaders and the general public.
The organisation therefore called on other African countries to intensify their surveillance, intelligence gathering and enforcement efforts to curb the illegal circulation of harmful substances and protect communities.
Lina Okereke Country Representative, Drug Free World AfricaDrug Free World Africa reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to advocacy, education and public awareness on the dangers of drug abuse. The organisation also expressed its readiness to partner with individuals, corporate organisations and government institutions in promoting a drug-free society across Africa.
