UMBIPC...A CALL TO ACTION IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PERSECUTED PEOPLE IN NIGERIA

*CPC;* Message of Concern on behalf of the United Middle Belt Indigenous Peoples Congress (UMBIPC):

*A Call to Action In Solidarity with the Persecuted People In Nigeria*

The United Middle Belt Indigenous Peoples Congress (UMBIPC) stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters that are facing persecution, violence, and genocide in Nigeria; whether they be Christians, Muslims, Traditionalists or whatever. We are deeply concerned about the escalating attacks particularly on Christians and indigenous communities in the Middle Belt region, which have resulted in countless losses of lives, displacement, and destruction of property.

We commend the United States government for being a catalyst to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), acknowledging the severity of the situation and the need for international attention. This is so because it rattles and wakes up every sleeping giant. We urge the Nigerian government to take concrete actions to protect its citizens, hold perpetrators accountable, and address the root causes of these conflicts. The government should make good stories of naming sponsors of the killings, arrest them and let Nigeria be free.

While putting up this concern to commend news making the rounds since yesterday of a potential visit by Abuja to White House, the Presidency has denied the reports of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's planned visit to the White House on Tuesday, November 4, 2024, describing the story as false and misleading. However, considering the context of recent tensions between the US and Nigeria, particularly over allegations of Christian persecution and threats of military action by US President Donald Trump, it would have been a plausible move that diplomatic efforts are underway.

If President Tinubu were to visit the White House, it would likely be to address pressing issues such as;

- *Counterterrorism Cooperation*: Strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation on regional stability and security.

- *Economic Partnerships*: Building trade and investment opportunities, particularly in areas like agriculture, renewable energy, and manufacturing.

- *Diasporan Engagements*: Strengthening bonds with the Nigerian diaspora community and promoting a more secure Nigeria.

The visit could have been a strategic move to

- *Mitigate Potential Conflict*: Reducing the likelihood of US military intervention in Nigeria.

- *Address Humanitarian Concerns*: Ensuring the protection of vulnerable populations and preventing further violence.

- *Build Cooperation*: Enhancing collaboration on issues like environmental degradation and economic development.

Given the complex nature of international diplomacy, the details of such a visit would likely have been subject to change and official confirmation.

Barr Abuka Omobaba                                          President General...United Middle Belt Indigenous Peoples Congress

As a Congress, we demand:

- *Immediate protection for vulnerable communities*: The Nigerian government must ensure the safety and security of its citizens, particularly in the Middle Belt region.

- *Justice for victims*: Perpetrators of violence and genocide must be held accountable for their actions, and victims must receive adequate compensation and support.

- *Recognition of genocide*: The Nigerian government must acknowledge the genocide unfolding in the Middle Belt region and take concrete steps to prevent further violence.

We call upon all well-meaning Nigerians, religious leaders, and the international community to join us in this call to action. Together, we can work towards a more just, secure and peaceful society where all citizens can live without fear of persecution or violence.

*May God bless the Middle Belt region and Nigeria, and may we work towards a brighter future for all.*

Sincerely,

*UMBIPC Leadership*
