GLOBAL TRANSPORT POLICY ROLLS OUT WOMEN IN TRANSPORT CONFERENCE 2024

 


"We are here to Ignite a movement to revolutionize Nigeria transport industry by.   harnessing the power of mindset and skill set, aiding in unlocking women's potentials,  drive economic growth and create a more inclusive industry" 

This statement formed the bases of the welcome address of the Chairman and Chief Consultant of Global Transport Policy, Dr Segun Alade Musa at the Women Transport Conference 2024 , organised in Lagos by the global transport policy group.                             With the theme tagged 'mindset plus skill set' championing inclusive Agenda for women in the transport industry.

Women according to the International Labour Organization (ILO) comprise of 12% of Nigeria Transport workforce while the remaining 75% face discrimination according to the National Bureau of Statistics.     



 The event witnessed a large turn out of representation from all sector of the Nation's Transport industry and notable personalities such as the Hon Commissioner Lagos State Ministry of Transport, Hon Oluwa Segun Osiyemi, Hon Adewale Temitope Adedeji the Chairman Committee on Transportation, Lagos house of Assembly, The Permanent Secretary of The Ministry of Transport Mr Olawale Musa, Representative of the Ministry of  Marine and Blue Economy Mrs Wasilatu Mohammed Adamu, Mrs Folake Oladapo Soji-George, Dr. Esther Shittu, Mrs Odo Ekang Ansa- Eno, Engr. Dr. Mrs Olufunmilayo Akingbagbohun, Engr Mrs Akinbola Akinajode, Captain Ibironke Rotimi Olajide first Female pilot to fly Embraer 195-E2 Aircraft and also an Aircraft maintenance Engineer, Mrs Queen Ajayi Assistance General Manager and Human Development Expert at Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Dr Ogochukwu Ugboma, Mrs Florence Boboye ,Mrs Kate Nnanna Ibemgbo, Mrs kemi Williams of LAMATA, Dr Hope Koka, Women in Logistics and Transport and other major state holders, Business Professionals, Students in the Transport career, Media veterans and a host of others. 


All the speakers advocated for a gender inclusive industry in building capacity and professional development calling on all women to support one another in building careers in the sector while voting ,that women should strongly emblize the I can do spirit thereby working and changing their mindsets in order to sustain any given position as they all related with their experiences.


The chairman Dr Segun Alade Musa noted that the theme 'mindset plus skillset' is not just in championing inclusive agenda for women in the transport industry but a clarion call to the federal government to drive women participation in governance, legislation and critical stake holder engagement but,  to also build the right mindset amongst women and transport stake holders,igniting a movement to revolutionize the NIGERIA transport industry by harnessing the power of mindset and skill set in unlocking women's potentials in driving economic growth and creating a more inclusive industry .



The chairman affirmed a more inclusive platform come 2025 with global actors such as United Nations, IMO, ILO and other international organizations coming on board as partners while, he pledge sponsoring Ten female students interested in studying Transport related courses across board come next year 2025.
