RED CROSS NATIONAL YOUTH CHAIRMAN AMEEN ABDUL URGES YOUTH TO SEIZE THEIR DESTINY AT THE CLOSE OF INT YOUTH CAMP, AGBOR, NIGERIA

Agbor, Delta State. August 29th, 2024

The National Youth Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ameen Abdul has declared that it is time for Nigeria’s youth to rise and take their destiny in their hands.

Speaking at the close of the 18th edition of the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s International Youth Camp, which held at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Training School in Agbor, Delta State, Ameen who is also the Chairman, Africa Youth Network of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said-“ There is no prize for complaining. Anybody can complain about their circumstances. However, the youth must understand that the world is changed not by a multitude of people, but one person at a time.”

He explained that if young people all started to do something positive in their corners, the world would become a better place in no time.

The week long camp featured First Aid Simulations, First Aid Practicals, climate change sessions, Leadership development, Skills acquisition, Artificial Intelligence lectures, entrepreneurship lectures, fitness sessions, Social night, Cultural display, Beauty Pageant and more.

The 18th International Youth Camp which left a powerful message of unity and collective action, was filled with young Red Crossers from every corner of Nigeria and beyond. We had participants From other national societies including Kenyan Red Cross, Ugandan Red Cross , Mozambique Red Cross and Seychelles Red Cross Societies. In one week, the youth of these countries lived and worked together creating ideas, engaging in peer to peer learning and sharing experiences and celebrating the diverse cultures.

The camp was organized to international standards, thanks to the dedication of the NRCS National Youth Wing Excos under the leadership of Ameen Abdul with the close guidance and supervision of Mr. Sidney Osawaru, the National Youth Adviser. His efforts ensured that every moment of the camp was meaningful, from the intense workshops to the shared meals that broke down barriers and built lasting friendships.

“The camp is a lasting testimony to the power of what is possible when young people work together. 

The youth must understand that nobody is going to simply hand over leadership to them. Power is not given. You have to earn it. You must show the capacity to lead.” Osawaru said.

In the words of Ameen Abdul the national Youth Chairman, he said, “This camp may have concluded, but the journey for these young humanitarians is just beginning. They’ve been equipped with the tools, the knowledge, and most importantly, the passion to make a difference. And as they step into the world, they carry with them the essence of what it means to be a Red Cross volunteer: to alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found.”
