NLC /TUC CALLS FOR INDEFINITE STRIKE!!!

Image
PRESS CONFERENCE 31ST OF MAY, 2024 COMMENCEMENT OF AN INDEFINITE NATIONWIDE STRIKE OVER THE INCONCLUSIVE NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE NEGOTIATION AND REFUSAL TO REVERSE THE HIKE IN ELECTRICITY TARIFF The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) express grave concern and disappointment over the Federal Government's failure to conclude and pass into Law a new National Minimum Wage Act and reverse the vexatious hike in electricity tariff to N65/kwh.  Today’s meeting further demonstrated the unseriousness and apparent contempt with which the Nigerian state holds the demands of Nigerian workers and people. No Governor was present and Ministers absent except the Minister of state for Labour and Employment who doubles as a conciliator. There was none present on the side of the government with appropriate authority to commit them to any outcome; in essence,  Government abandoned the meeting. We consider this disdainful and shows lack of commitment to a successful National

KANO EMIRATE CRISIS; FOUNDER NNPP ADVISES ON ROAD TO ACHIEVING PEACE

PRESS RELEASE  LET RULE OF LAW PREVAIL IN KANO EMIRATE CRISIS.  As the founder of New  NIGERIA PEOPLE'S PARTY  i have noted the unfolding Emirate crisis and became marvelled at the degeneracy of law and order in that State under the leadership of New Nigeria People's Party  and the contending forces for control of the Emirate stool . Going forward it shall be my considered opinion and advise that parties concerned should apply caution in order not to plunge Kano into avoidable conflagration capable of impeding the nascent democratic process this nation has been nurturing overtime.  What is crucial in the just resolution of creeping titanic struggle for control of the Kano Royalty  is that both warring Royal Groups should ensure that the rule of law is strictly adhered to and judgment/ judgements of courts of competent jurisdiction be fully complied with respectfully . This advice has become paramount and necessary because if Kano boils, the whole nation may be negatively affec

NEW NIGERIA PEOPLE'S PARTY (NNPP) NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, ABUJA 29th May 2024 PRESS RELEASE  RENEWED HOPE? NO! HOPE IS DIMMING! The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has called on the Federal Government to urgently review its economic policies to align with the prevailing sufferings of the people and boost productivity in the country. In its one year assessment of the Tinubu administration, the party noted with dismay that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the government was not yielding the desired benefits but rather it has inflicted untold hardship on the people. According to a statement by NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the economic indicators and performance index of the economy were not giving Nigerians any hope  because they are not feeling the impact of government on their daily wellbeing. "The renewed hope now looks like a feeble orchestration, hope is dimming", it said. The party criticized the implementation process of the subsidy removal which

NNPP BEMOANS THE USE OF SECURITY AGENTS IN THE CONTROVERSIAL EMIRSHIP STOOL IN KANO

PRESS RELEASE!!! NEW NIGERIA PEOPLE'S PARTY (NNPP) NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, ABUJA  25th May 2024 USING SECURITY AGENTS TO INTIMIDATE THE PEOPLE OF KANO STATE OVER EMIRSHIP STOOL POSES GRAVE DANGER TO NIGERIA'S DEMOCRACY The on -going siege on Kano State, especially,  the Palace of the Emir of Kano by soldiers and other security  agents is nothing but a show of shame and a threat to the democracy which some  Nigerians shed their blood to enthrone. Nigerians were embarrassed since early Saturday morning to see the deployment of soldiers and other security agents around  the vicinity of the Emir of Kano's Palace, in what seems like plan to overturn the Constitutionally backed restructuring and restoration of the lost glory of the Kano State Emirate Council. This is a process which went through the whole gamut of law amendment processes.   The drafters of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, in their wisdom have given the different tiers of Government in the country (Federal, State,

BREAKING NEWS  MAKE NO MISTAKES TO FORGET THAT SENATOR RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO, ELDER BUBA GALADIMA AND THE ENTIRE MEMBERS OF THE OLD NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE OF THE NEW NIGERIA PEOPLE'S PARTY LED BY THE FORMER ACTING NATIONAL CHAIRMAN ALH ABBA KAWU ARE EXPELLED MEMBERS  Once again it has become necessary to remind the political class and members of the new Nigeria people's party that the above named persons have been expelled from new Nigeria people's party  The propaganda of using the temporary recognition of inec is inconsequential noting that inec does not have full control of the internal administration and management of registered political parties in Nigeria.  Without prejudices to the inherent powers of inec to regulate and control political parties in Nigeria,  it is trite to note that inec can only observe where necessary the internal administration of political parties to appoint and or elect officers of the party or look into the accounting systems and records

UPGRADING OF SHELL AIRSTRIP AT OLOIBIRI TO AN AIR FORCE BASE

Image
Senate Seeks Upgrade of Oloibiri Airstrip to Air Force Base The Nigerian Senate has urged the Ministry of Aviation and the Nigeria Air Force to take over and convert the deserted and uncultivable wasteland of the abandoned Shell Airstrip at Oloibiri oil well one to a modern Air Force Base in Bayelsa. The resolution was sequel to a motion brought to the floor by Senator representing Bayelsa East, Senator Benson Agadaga. Senator Agadaga, in his lead debate, recalled that the Shell Airstrip, constructed in 1958 following the first discovery of crude oil in 1956 and sitting on over 25 hectares of land situated at Itokopiri bush which is hosting the famous Oloibiri Oil well 1 in Otuogidi Community, has long been abandoned. Lawmakers in their contributions to the debate, regretted that since the gradual decline of Shell’s operations in the area and final departure from Oloibiri oil field, the Airstrip and the land where it operated have been abandoned and left desolation. Senate Moves to Revert to Old National  Anthem  A bill has passed a second reading in the Nigerian Senate, seeking to revert to Nigeria’s old national anthem. The old anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” was replaced with the current one “Arise, O Compatriots" in 1978 during the Olusegun Obasanjo regime. The bill which was sponsored by Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, enjoys overwhelming support from his colleagues during Thursday's plenary. The lawmakers, who appeared unanimous in support of the proposed bill, asserted that the current national anthem is a product of the military junta, decreed by the military and therefore should be discarded to adequately capture the nation's democratic values, integrity and principally foster commitment to nationhood After a rigorous debate, President of the Senate Godswil Akpabio referred the proposed bill to Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to report back to Senate in plenary for further legislat
